International tourist arrivals grew by a remarkable 7% in 2017 to reach a total of 1,322 million, according to the latest UNWTO World Tourism Barometer. This strong momentum is expected to continue in 2018 at a rate of 4%-5%. By 2030, UNWTO forecasts international tourist arrivals to reach 1.8 billion.
Tourism with its growth can be both a great opportunity or a challenge. As immaterial service business it is a positive affair in any case. It has a huge responsibility to design the services in sustainable ways; high quality, reusable and recyclable goods designing out the waste throughout the service and the supply line.
Travelling industry can advance sustainable livelihoods in local societies by encouraging them to integrate the high standard of environmental values. Tourism can spread good practises to the local people and travellers to their everyday life.
